Today's ABA Therapy

OTA the Koomar Center Today’s ABA is unique in its comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and collaborative approach. Together, the BCBA and RBT collaborate with the speech and occupational therapists to help the child reach their highest potential.

Today’s ABA is offered exclusively at the OTA Woburn location.

What Is Today's ABA Therapy?

Today’s ABA therapy, or TABA, is a research-based, evidence-supported therapy that utilizes the principles of ABA to teach socially significant behaviors that support individualized independence while reducing behaviors that may impact health and safety and limit options for educational, vocational, or residential options.

In addition, through a functional behavior assessment and creation of a behavior intervention plan, Today’s ABA helps to shape and change behaviors that may require support and provide the child and parent with tools for successful participation in home, school, and community activities. Today’s ABA prioritizes safety, trust and rapport above all else, and utilizes contemporary tools and strategies grounded in research and OTA’s mission to advance comprehensive, collaborative and compassionate care.

Services Offered By Our TABA Therapy Team

1:1 comprehensive Today’s ABA addresses numerous target skills across multiple domains. Children attend this program for half or full days or approximately 25-40 hours of direct treatment per week 1:1 with an RBT and 10-20% supervision from the BCBA to build adaptive skills and support behaviors that significantly interfere with learning. Service hours are individualized based on the child’s unique needs.

Focused ABA program includes approximately 10-25 hours of direct treatment hours per week 1:1 with an RBT and 10-20% supervision from the BCBA. Focused ABA typically involves fewer domains. Children receiving focused treatment may have fewer interfering behaviors, strong functional communication, and may be ready to begin a transition to a less restrictive environment, such as the classroom setting.

Therapeutic Day Program

Each child will receive 1:1 Today’s ABA therapy for personalized instruction and support within small group simulated classroom setting. The program is led by a BCBA and registered behavior technicians (RBTs) with collaboration and coordination of care with speech and occupational therapists specializing in sensory integration. All staff are trained to use the program’s sensory gym by our OTs, and regularly meet with our speech therapists to consult regularly about best communication supports for each student.

Initial ABA Evaluation Process

Children within the Today’s ABA therapy program may benefit from other services at OTA, including speech therapy and occupational therapy. Your child will receive a Today’s ABA therapy evaluation consisting of a parent and caregiver interview, observation, and direct assessment for Today’s ABA services. Following your Today’s ABA evaluation, the BCBA will reach out to collaborate with other treatment team members, such as speech and occupational therapists.

These evaluations and treatment sessions are separate from Today’s ABA services. However, we encourage collaboration between all members of the child’s treatment team.

Your Child's Today’s ABA Team

Your child’s team will consist of a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) as well as two primary registered behavior technicians (RBTs). The BCBA will oversee the child’s treatment, provide training and supervision to the RBTs, and meet with the parent regularly for training and collaboration.

In addition, our OTA directors and related disciplines (ST and OT) work and serve together to help the child and family.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Children within the ABA therapy program may benefit from other services at OTA the Koomar Center, including speech therapy and occupational therapy. Our evaluations are interdisciplinary. During your child’s Today’s ABA evaluation, we will also assess the need for speech and occupational therapy.

Our BCBA will collaborate with occupational therapists and speech therapists regarding communication, activities of daily living, social and play skills as they relate to behavior.

Behavior

OTA Today’s ABA seeks to understand a child’s individual interests and motivation as well as the function of behaviors that impact participation in activities across settings. Through this understanding of behavior and the application of

Today’s ABA, we can help to shape and replace behaviors that may interfere with health, safety and learning in order for the child and family to enjoy meaningful activities at school, home, and in the community.
